Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in good health, just as your soul prospers.
— 3 John 1:2
In Scripture, we are called not just to speak love, but to embody it — to become living proof of God’s care in the world, by being the salt and light of the earth. Genesis Church carries out this calling by serving as a place where people can experience practical compassion without barriers, and spiritual care without judgment.
For families who are stretched thin or silently hurting, Genesis offers what so many have been missing: a place to be seen, fed, supported, and reminded that God’s love shows up in human hands — through groceries shared, prayers lifted, and burdens carried together.

Here, service is not charity — it is fellowship.
It is the ministry of presence.
It is to care for the whole person: body and soul.
Grocery Share : “Feeding My Sheep”
The Grocery Share ministry provides fresh food, produce, pantry items, and everyday essentials to anyone in the community in need — no sign-up, paperwork, or proof of hardship required. Guests are welcomed as neighbors, not “recipients,” and are
given room to choose what their family needs with dignity and respect.
Their Grocery Share occurs weekly, with no income or household requirements to receive services! Contact them here for questions about the pantry: info@yourgenesischurch.com
This ministry meets people at the most basic level of survival — because Scripture teaches that spiritual care begins with physical care. Before Jesus preached, He fed.
Before He healed hearts, He met needs.
This program lives out that example.
Trauma Healing — “Bear One Another’s Burdens”
The Trauma Healing ministry at Genesis Church is a faith-rooted space for spiritual and emotional care — where people can bring their wounds into the light of community and the compassion of Christ. This is not clinical therapy; it is discipleship through care, honesty, prayer, and connection.
In partnership with World Impact, The Trauma Healing Institute, The Family Crisis Center of Contra Costa County, CCDA (Christian Community Development Association), and the Bay Area Urban Development Association, Genesis Church provides urban soul care — creating pathways for holistic healing in communities that have too often been overlooked or spiritually exhausted by trauma.
Urban Soul Care means creating safe places where people can experience spiritual renewal, where pain is not minimized but carried to the cross, and where wounds become testimonies instead of silent suffering.
Genesis Church believes that Trauma-Informed Discipleship opens doors for both healing and transformation — allowing the gospel to be not just preached, but embodied in the way we sit with one another in hardship.
This ministry offers:
Small healing circles rooted in Scripture & community trust
Peer-led spiritual companionship instead of clinical intervention
A safe space to bring grief, stress, fear, anger, or loss
Pathways to process pain with others instead of alone
The freedom to be vulnerable without judgment
Support that honors both emotional realities and spiritual identity
Here, healing is not rushed. It is witnessed.
And restoration is something we walk toward — together.
Why Their Work Matters
Before a person asks for healing, they need somewhere safe to land. Genesis is that landing place — a steady reminder that God sees the weary, the hungry, the stretched-thin, and the quietly hurting. Scripture teaches that faith is shown in how we care for one another.
Genesis lives this calling by tending both the body and the soul — feeding the hungry, walking with the hurting, and making visible the love of Christ through simple acts of care.
Their work matters because it reflects the heart of God: that every person is worthy of nourishment, dignity, and healing.

Partnership Acknowledgment
The organizations featured in our Miles of Connections profiles are part of a county-wide effort to advance health, healing, and well-being within Contra Costa’s Black communities. Along with The Miles Hall Foundation, twelve organizations received funding through Contra Costa County to expand culturally rooted care and community support.
This work is built from the voices of over 4,000 Black residents who shaped the vision for a stronger ecosystem of services. In response, on August 12, 2025, the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the launch of what will become the Federal Glover African American Holistic Wellness and Resource Hub — a coordinated network of Black-led wellness services to be anchored in East County.
The Contra Costa Office of Racial Equity and Social Justice (ORESJ), in partnership with the East Bay Community Foundation, is supporting this first cohort of organizations to ensure services reach the community now while the Hub’s long-term infrastructure is built.
As part of this initiative, The Miles Hall Foundation leads the “Miles of Connections” outreach effort, helping residents learn about, access, and connect with these vital healing resources.
