At The Miles Hall Foundation, we honor this month by advancing our mission to ensure every Black life in crisis is met with love, support, and community—not criminalization.

When someone in crisis says, “I’m not sick,” it isn’t always denial — sometimes it’s anosognosia. This brain-based condition prevents individuals from recognizing their own mental illness, shaping how crises unfold and how systems respond. Understanding anosognosia is essential to honoring Miles’ story and building a future where mental illness is met with care, not misunderstanding.

Miles of Connections is more than a partnership—it’s a lifeline. Across Contra Costa County, Black-led and Black-serving organizations are coming together to provide healing, support, and resources that strengthen our community long before crisis ever begins.
