SAMHSA is at Risk. It's Critical To Mental Health Care in the US.

Along with so many other things across our government, SAMHSA, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration is being dismantled before our eyes. One of the main hurdles in defending its importance is that the public doesn't know what SAMHSA is or does.

SAMHSA provides leadership and supports lifesaving programs across the country - including 988. California Senator Padilla and other Congressional leaders have warned the proposed plan to dissolve it is unlawful and will have disastrous ramifications for millions of Americans.

Dr. Eric Rafla-Yuan, who serves on the Board for The Miles Hall Foundation has written an op-ed describing how SAMHSA touches the lives of every California community which was published today in the Sacramento Bee, San Luis Obispo Tribune, Modesto Bee, Fresno Bee and Merced Sun-Star.

SAMHSA is at risk and it's critical to mental health care in the US. If you have bandwidth, you might also consider penning an OpEd to publish in your own communities. It would be great to have more voices out there on this! We deeply appreciate anything you might be able to do to build awareness about this issue. Of course, on top of all the other things you are already doing to try to care for our communities!
