We are grateful to San Diego Physician Magazine for highlighting the importance of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline in their March 2025 issue and for recognizing the work of The Miles Hall Foundation in advancing non-police mental health crisis response.
As the article notes, 988 is a critical step forward, but there is still work to do to ensure these services are truly accessible, trauma-informed, and free from harmful law enforcement involvement.
Dr. Eric Rafla-Yuan, a psychiatrist and proud board member of The Miles Hall Foundation, has been a leading voice in these efforts. His advocacy has been essential in shaping policies that center care over criminalization.
The Miles Hall Lifeline Act, named in honor of Miles, laid the foundation for 988 in California—funding non-police crisis response teams so families have somewhere to turn other than law enforcement.
We will continue fighting for a system where no family has to fear calling for help. 💚
